Police Nab Duo Wanted in 2013 Burglary and Theft Cases

Anantnag, Oct 24, : The police in Aishmuqam have arrested two individuals who had been evading arrest for over ten years. The arrests mark the culmination of a decade-long pursuit driven by sustained efforts, intelligence gathering, and technical surveillance by the local police team.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Arif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Suleiman Sheikh, resident of Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, who was wanted in FIR No. 39/2013 under sections 454 and 380 RPC, and Mohammad Shameem Sheikh, son of Minto Sheikh, resident of Kala Chowk, Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, wanted in FIR No. 47/2013 under the same sections.
Both accused were involved in separate burglary and theft cases registered in 2013 and had been absconding since 2014 to evade arrest. Acting on specific and credible inputs, the Aishmuqam police initiated a coordinated operation that combined human intelligence with technical surveillance, ultimately tracing the duo to their hideouts.
A senior police officer told Kashmir News Trust that the arrests reflect the department’s commitment to bringing long-pending offenders to justice. “No matter how long it takes, the law will eventually catch up with those who try to escape it,” the officer said, adding that further legal proceedings are underway.
Police have assured that intensified efforts will continue to trace and apprehend other absconders involved in old criminal cases in the district. [KNT]
