5 gamblers arrested in Kulgam, stake money seized

Kulgam; Acting tough against social crimes, Police in Kulgam have arrested 5 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued, police spokesman said that acting swiftly upon a specific information generated from reliable sources regarding Gambling in the juridiction of Police Station Devsar, A Police party headed by SHO Devsar raided a suspected gambling site at Sopat and apprehended 5 gamblers on spot.

They have been identified as Sabzar Ahmad Sheikh of YK Pora, Tariq Ahmad Khan of Shali Qazigund, Manzoor Ahmad Shah of Sursun, Batingoo, Wajood Ahmad Ganie of Banghall and Suhail Ahmad Ganie of Banghall.

Officers have also seized stake money of Rs 11000, 05 mobile phones and a set of playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to the police station Devsar where they remain in custody under FIR No. 13/2023 U/S 13 of Gambling Act. Further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Meanwhile, People of the area have appreciated the role of police for being prompt against such social evils. β€œPersons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt strictly as per law. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti-social activity in their vicinity”, statement reads.
