Srinagar | Feb 25: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur has extended warm greetings to the people of the J&K Union Territory on the occasion of Maha Shivratri (Heerath), a festival of great significance for Kashmiri Pandits and the Hindu community.
In his message, Thakur highlighted the festival’s spiritual and cultural importance, calling it a symbol of devotion, peace, and harmony. “Maha Shivratri, especially Heerath in Kashmir, is a festival that strengthens the bonds of unity and brotherhood. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all, praying for prosperity, happiness, and peace in J&K,” he said.
The festival, deeply rooted in Kashmiri tradition, is celebrated with fervor, with devotees offering prayers to Lord Shiva. Heerath holds special significance for Kashmiri Pandits, who observe it with traditional rituals, including the offering of Walnuts to Lord Shiva as part of their centuries-old customs.
Thakur also expressed hope that Maha Shivratri would bring peace and stability to the region and further strengthen the spirit of co-existence among communities.
