DLSA Srinagar Hosts Awareness Program on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and POCSO Act
Srinagar, July 26, 2024: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Government Higher Secondary School Mujgund Srinagar, organized an impactful awareness program at the school’s Legal Literacy Club. The event focused on the themes of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the menace of female foeticide, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of DLSA Srinagar (PDJ, Srinagar), the program aimed to enlighten students about the importance of empowering girls and fighting against societal issues like female foeticide. The principal, in-charge Teacher of the Legal Literacy Club, staff members, officials, para-legal volunteers, and students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Mujgund Srinagar actively participated in the event.
Ms. Tasneem Kausar, Deputy LADC, delivered a powerful speech on the significance of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” and the detrimental impacts of female foeticide. Advocate Nadiya provided an insightful explanation of the POCSO Act, educating the students on child sexual abuse, the importance of reporting such incidents, and the legal protections available to them.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Sunila (JLA) DLSA Srinagar, reinforcing the event’s objective to empower students with essential knowledge and motivate them to become proactive agents of social change. The event successfully promoted gender equality and emphasized the importance of protecting children from harm, making a significant impact on the young minds in attendance.
