“₹50-Crore Law University in J&K to Focus on Military Justice & Tribal Rights, Announces CM Omar”

Srinagar, July 26:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while addressing a regional legal conference on Kargil Vijay Diwas, announced the establishment of a ₹50-crore Law University in Jammu and Kashmir.

The proposed university will focus on military justice, tribal rights, constitutional law, and environmental justice. CM Omar emphasized the need for urgent legal support for serving and retired defence personnel, highlighting their challenges in accessing justice due to frequent transfers and difficult postings.

He also praised the J&K Legal Services Authority for amending rules to include defence personnel in legal aid and commended the High Court’s reforms aimed at improving justice delivery.

Calling it an investment in the future, Omar said the university will serve as a centre of excellence for legal education and policy research in the region.
