*Stray dogs wreak havoc in Sgr City; SMC says sterilization going on*
Srinagar, Dec 26 : Stray dogs have wreaked havoc in different areas of Srinagar city.
The news agency— on Thursday received telephone calls from Gousiya Colony Bemina, Karfali Mohalla, Habba Kadal, Hyderpora, and Shira Shahi areas in Srinagar.
The callers had one common complaint that stray dogs have “unleashed a reign of terror” in their areas. “We are unable to come out of our homes in morning and evening hours. Packs of dogs roam in the streets and threaten the pedestrians,” the callers said.
Gulzar Ahmad from Karfali Mohalla stated that the situation has worsened in recent months, with dogs becoming more aggressive, especially in residential areas.
Many residents fear that the rising stray dog population could lead to more attacks on children and the elderly.
Mohammad Shaban from Gousiya Colony said that there are packs of dogs present in their area and they are feeling insecure. “Every day we see about two to three dozen dogs, and they are causing disturbances in the night and evening hours,” he said.
When contacted, officials from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) said the dog menace is on the rise. “We have initiated sterilization in different areas of Srinagar. We are planning to continue sterilization till March next year,” the officials said—
