Srinagar, Dec 26 : Stray dogs have wreaked havoc in different areas of Srinagar city.

The news agencyβ€” on Thursday received telephone calls from Gousiya Colony Bemina, Karfali Mohalla, Habba Kadal, Hyderpora, and Shira Shahi areas in Srinagar.

The callers had one common complaint that stray dogs have β€œunleashed a reign of terror” in their areas. β€œWe are unable to come out of our homes in morning and evening hours. Packs of dogs roam in the streets and threaten the pedestrians,” the callers said.

Gulzar Ahmad from Karfali Mohalla stated that the situation has worsened in recent months, with dogs becoming more aggressive, especially in residential areas.

Many residents fear that the rising stray dog population could lead to more attacks on children and the elderly.

Mohammad Shaban from Gousiya Colony said that there are packs of dogs present in their area and they are feeling insecure. β€œEvery day we see about two to three dozen dogs, and they are causing disturbances in the night and evening hours,” he said.

When contacted, officials from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) said the dog menace is on the rise. β€œWe have initiated sterilization in different areas of Srinagar. We are planning to continue sterilization till March next year,” the officials saidβ€”
