Recognition of Print Media in Jammu and Kashmir: Excellence Honored at Local and National Levels
Srinagar News Reporter Aman Malik Receives Award at Republic Day Event in the Presence of Health, Education, and Social Welfare Ministers
Print media in Jammu and Kashmir has consistently played a vital role in highlighting social, cultural, and political issues. Both the central and state governments have initiated various awards to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of journalists and media institutions. The central government introduced the “National Awards for Excellence in Journalism” in 2012 to celebrate outstanding contributions in the field of journalism. For example, in 2023, the Press Council of India honored 15 journalists across different categories for their exceptional work.
Similarly, the Jammu and Kashmir state government has also recognized media professionals for their contributions. In 2024, state awards were presented to 36 individuals from various fields, including prominent journalists.
Despite the numerous challenges faced by print media journalists in Jammu and Kashmir, their relentless efforts have earned recognition at both local and national levels, often culminating in prestigious accolades.
The Republic Day celebrations this year brought further acknowledgment of journalistic contributions in the region. In South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a Republic Day ceremony was held at the Humayun Mazmil Government Degree College for Boys. The Minister of Health, Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Masood Aitu, presided over the event, hoisting the national flag and receiving a ceremonial salute. The event also featured vibrant cultural programs by the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local schoolchildren.
In her address, Sakina Masood Aitu highlighted the district administration’s achievements across various sectors, commending efforts to maintain cleanliness and enhance the beauty of Anantnag.
During the ceremony, Aman Malik, a reporter from Srinagar News, was recognized for his journalistic contributions. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, DIG, SSP, MLA Anantnag Pirzada Mohammad Saeed, MLA Pahalgam Mohammad Altaf Wani (Kallo), MLA Bijbehara Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, MLA Anantnag East Advocate Riaz Ahmad Khan, and the Commandant of the CRPF 40th Battalion.
Through such initiatives, the central and state governments continue to encourage and recognize the contributions of print media in Jammu and Kashmir. These accolades not only highlight the hard work and dedication of journalists but also reinforce the critical role they play in fostering societal development and accountability.
