Residents Urge Health Minister to Upgrade CHC Pattan to Sub-District or District Hospital
Baramulla, Jan 27, : The residents of Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and its adjoining areas have appealed to Health Minister Sakina Itoo to upgrade the Community Health Centre (CHC) Pattan into a Sub-District or District Hospital, citing it as a long-pending demand crucial for the region’s healthcare needs.
They emphasized that the hospital has been neglected for decades, becoming a victim of political indifference. “Despite serving a large population in the area, Pattan Hospital remains in the same state as it was in 1942. No new posts have been created, and no efforts have been made to upgrade it to a Sub-District Hospital,” they remarked.
The locals also highlighted the acute shortage of medical staff, stating that the hospital operates largely with the support of volunteers due to the lack of sufficient doctors and paramedical staff. They pointed out that the hospital’s staffing levels have not changed in over 40 years, leaving it ill-equipped to handle the growing demands of the region’s population.
Calling the situation dire, the locals reiterated that upgrading the hospital to a Sub-District or District Hospital is both a pressing necessity and a public demand. They urged the authorities to address this issue as a priority to ensure better healthcare services for Pattan and its surrounding areas.
