Cocoon Auction Market begins in Kashmir Division
Srinagar,27, August: The Cocoon Auction Market for Kashmir Division has begun at the Sericulture Complex in Srinagar. The market was inaugurated by Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, in presence of Officers of the department, Cocoon Growers and buyers from both local and outside regions. The aim and objective of the Cocoon Auction Market is to ensure that the Cocoon Growers will get good returns of their produce.
Over the next few days, Silkworm Rearers and farmers from Districts Srinagar, Pattan, Sonawari, and Budgam will have the opportunity to sell their cocoon crop in this market. Subsequently, the Auction Markets will be organized in across Kashmir Division in order to ensure that the Silkworm Rearers can benefit from the Cocoon Auction facility right at their doorstep.
Speaking at the inauguration, Bhat, emphasized the department’s commitment to provide adequate facilities for farmers to sell their produce at favourable prices. He further highlighted the department’s focus on establishing more silkworm reeling units across Jammu & Kashmir. “Our aim is to ensure that the cocoon produce is consumed locally, thereby boosting the local Silk Industry and providing better returns to our farmers,” Bhat stated.
The Cocoon Auction Market is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the income of cocoon growers by facilitating better price realization through competitive bidding by local and outside buyers. The department has made all necessary arrangements for successful completion of Cocoon Auction process.
This initiative is part of the Sericulture Department’s broader strategy to strengthen the Sericulture Sector in Jammu & Kashmir, with a focus on increasing production, improving quality, ensuring the economic well-being of the Silkworm Rearers, besides, facilitating them a platform to sell their produce hassle free in the form of Cocoon Auction Markets.
The Silkworm Rearers and buyers were seen busy with selling and buying Cocoons in the Cocoon Auction Market organized by the Sericulture Dev. Department and while having interaction with some of the Rearers and buyers they have expressed satisfaction over the robust arrangements being made by the Department for their convenience. They have hoped that their produce will give high returns in the Cocoon Auction Market at Srinagar. The buyers also expressed their views by saying that this year the quality and quantum of cocoons produced by the Silkworm Rearers have improved drastically.
The Director Sericulture J&K was accompanied by the Additional Director, Sericulture Development Department, Kashmir, Development Officer, ISDP, Sonawar, Development Officer, Extension & Trainings J&K, Projector Executive Officer, Srinagar/ Kashmir,District Sericulture Officer, Baramulla/Kupwara/ Srinagar/ Budgam/ Bandipora, Manager Seed, Srinagar and other Officers of the Department.
