Damascus, Nov 27 (UNI) Four pro-government fighters were killed and 18 others injured on Sunday due to the explosion of a landmine planted by the Islamic State in the eastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zour, a war monitor reported.

The incident took place when these members of the National Defense Forces were combing Al-Shajeri village in the government-controlled area of the desert region in Deir al-Zour, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, with some of them seriously wounded, said the Britain-based war monitor.

The United Nations has repeatedly warned about the danger of undetected landmines and other explosives in Syria.

The landmines and explosive remnants of war, which had been planted by military formations across Syria since 2011, have killed and injured many in Syria, said the Observatory on Sunday, revealing that the number of deaths and injuries from such explosions across Syria has reached 235 and 308 respectively, so far this year.
