Major relief for road victims under J&K Fund Rules

JAMMU, JUNE In a historic step towards delivering timely relief to road accident victims, the Jammu district administration led by the Deputy Commissioner in coordination with the Regional Transport Officer, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), and Chief Medical Officer has achieved a major breakthrough under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund Rules, 2022.
Over the last three months, โ‚น50.5 lakh has been directly credited into the bank accounts of legal heirs of deceased and injured road accident victims across Jammu district.
Of this, โ‚น47 lakh has been disbursed in 47 death cases, with each legal heir receiving โ‚น1 lakh. Compensation was also extended to 10 injured persons based on the severity of their injuriesโ€”โ‚น75,000 for severe, โ‚น50,000 for moderate, and โ‚น10,000 for minor injuries.
This initiative reflects a strong push to implement the victim-centric provisions of the 2022 Rules, aimed at providing immediate financial assistance to families affected by road tragedies.
In addition, 12 death cases and 5 injury cases are under active consideration, with compensation expected to be released shortly.
The Deputy Commissioner, Jammu expressed satisfaction over the implementation and praised the seamless inter-departmental coordination that made the disbursement possible.
The initiative also highlights the pivotal role played by the Transport Commissioner, J&K, whose timely and proactive provisioning of funds ensured quick relief. His leadership has been instrumental in reaffirming the departmentโ€™s humane and responsive approach toward accident relief and rehabilitation.
