Bandipora, Jul 29: A black bear attacked, leaving a person injured in Balhama village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district this afternoon.
Reports reaching GNS said that a man identified as Ghulam Mohammad Wani, 50, son of late Ghulam Hassan Wani, a resident of Balhoom Arin, was injured after being attacked by the bear while he was working in his orchard.
The man has suffered multiple injuries in the incident and was taken to DH Bandipora, from where he has been shifted to a Srinagar based hospital for advanced treatment.
Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bandipora, confirmed to GNS that the patient has been shifted to a Srinagar hospital given the nature of his injuries.
Meanwhile, a Wildlife Department official decried lack of manpower and equipment to deal with the situation arising out in backdrop of the man-animal conflicts.
“This is the second attack of its nature taking place today and we are being shuttled from one place to another to catch these animals’, the official said, adding “However with acute shortage of manpower and equipment we literally are feeling helpless.”
“We urge the higher-ups to fill the gaps, so that we are able to fulfill our mandate in a better and more convenient way”, the official added. (GNS)
