The Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative & Election, Mr. Javid Ahmad Dar, today on 30.09.2025 convened a high-level review meeting with Presidents / Office barriers of Fruit Associations of F&V Markets of Kashmir Division in the Meeting Hall of the Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Jammu and Kashmir, to assess and address key issues pertaining to the horticulture sector in the Union Territory. The Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing Mr.Gh. Jeelani Zargar, JKAS and Senior Office of the Department also attended the said meeting.
At the outset, the Director, Horticulture Planning and Marketing, presented a comprehensive overview of the department’s ongoing activities and recent initiatives undertaken to support growers and traders. He highlighted various measures implemented for strengthening post-harvest management, improving market linkages, and enhancing the overall efficiency in the marketing of horticulture produce across J&K.
During the interactive session, the Presidents of the F&V Markets raised several pertinent issues and offered valuable suggestions aimed at strengthening the horticulture ecosystem. Key issues discussed included the need for more Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities, availability and standardization of packing material, smoother movement of trucks along the National Highway and Mughal Road, establishment of processing units for value addition, implementation of crop insurance schemes, strengthening of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), promotion of online trading via the e-NAM portal, and improved functioning of mandis.
The Hon’ble Minister gave a patient and empathetic hearing to all concerns and suggestions raised by the stakeholders. He assured the participants that all issues would be prioritized, and necessary steps will be initiated for their resolution. He further emphasized that matters falling outside the immediate purview of the Ministry will be actively taken up with the appropriate authorities in the Government for early redressal. The Hon’ble Minister advised the participants to adopt modern / high-tech technologies instead of traditional practices in horticulture sector to boost the economy of J&K.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at fostering growth, resilience, and sustainability in the horticulture sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
