MLA Karnah urges Revival of Helicopter Services for Snowbound Areas

Srinagar, Oct 30, Javid Mirchal, MLA Karnah, on Thursday urged the Jammu Kashmir Government to resume helicopter services for transporting dead bodies from snowbound areas, a practice he said has remained discontinued for the past eight to ten years.

Raising the issue during the Assembly session, Mirchal said the service had once provided vital assistance to families cut off during heavy snowfall. “I request the government to revisit the decision and restore helicopter services to snowbound areas, especially for carrying dead bodies during winters,” he said.

The legislator also expressed serious concern over the shortage of medical specialists in the Karnah region, highlighting a recent incident that underscored the healthcare crisis. “There is no gynaecologist in Karnah hospital. A woman expecting twins had to deliver one baby in Karnah and the other in Handwara due to the absence of a gynaecologist,” he said.

Mirchal appealed to the Health Department to immediately post qualified specialists in the far-flung border constituency, stressing that the people of Karnah should not be deprived of basic healthcare facilities during harsh winter months.
