Vitul Kumar Assigned as Officiating CRPF Director General

New Delhi, Dec 30, : The Government of India has assigned senior IPS officer Vitul Kumar the officiating charge of Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This appointment follows the retirement of the current CRPF chief, Anish Dayal Singh, on December 31, 2024.

Kumar, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Special Director General of the CRPF. According to an office memorandum issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Kumar will hold the position until a regular appointment is made or further orders are issued.

“The competent authority has approved the assignment of officiating charge for the post of Director General, CRPF, to Vitul Kumar, IPS (UP:93), upon the superannuation of Anish Dayal Singh, IPS (MA:88), effective December 31, 2024, until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the memorandum stated.

Born on August 3, 1968, in Bathinda, Punjab, Kumar is an engineering graduate with a degree in Electronics. Over his career, he has held several key positions in the police force. He was promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) on February 9, 2009, Inspector General (IG) on December 31, 2012, and Additional Director General (ADG) on January 1, 2018. In September 2024, Kumar assumed the role of Special Director General of the CRPF, a post he will retain until his retirement on August 31, 2028.

Kumar’s extensive experience and steady rise through the ranks make him well-suited to lead the CRPF, the world’s largest paramilitary force, during this interim period.
