Amid wet spell forecast after April 15, night temp rises in J&K

Srinagar, April 14 : Amid forecast for wet spell after April 15, night temperature recorded a rise on Friday, officials said.

A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 9.0ยฐC against 7.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 1.4ยฐC above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 6.0ยฐC, the same as on the previous night and it was 0.5ยฐC below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 3.6ยฐC against 3.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.8ยฐC above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmirโ€™s Anantnag district.

Kokernag recorded a low of 9.4ยฐC against 9.1ยฐC on the previous night and it was 3.3ยฐC above normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 5.4ยฐC against 4.4ยฐC on the previous night and it was 3.9ยฐC above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmirโ€™s Baramulla district, he said.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 5.6ยฐC against 6.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.7ยฐC below normal for the north Kashmir area.

Jammu recorded a low of 20.3ยฐC against 18.8ยฐC on the previous night. It was 1.1ยฐC above normal for J&Kโ€™s winter capital, he said.

Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 8.4ยฐC (above normal by 0.2ยฐC), Batote 13.2ยฐC (above normal by 2.7ยฐC), Katra 18.6ยฐC (2.1ยฐC above normal) and Bhadarwah 9.6ยฐC (2.6ยฐC below normal). Ladakhโ€™s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 0.2ยฐC and 3.3ยฐC respectively, he said.

Regarding forecast, he said, mainly dry weather was expected to continue in next 24 hours.

He said from April 16-17, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain, thunderstorm and lightning โ€œwith occasional moderate intensity rains for short periodโ€ at scattered to fairly widespread places of Kashmir and a few places of Jammu division.

From April 18-19, he said, the weather is likely to be generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain (light snow over higher reaches)/thunderstorm/lightning at fairly widespread places of Kashmir division and few places of Jammu division.

From April 20-21st, he said, generally cloudy weather with intermittent light rain, thunderstorms and lightning was expected at a few places. โ€œFrom April 22-26, the weather is likely to be mainly dry weather.โ€ (GNS)
