Urges parents to educate their children about ill effects of drug menace

Srinagar, Jun 26 : “The general public should be made aware of the dangers of drugs, and if you know anyone having fallen to this menace, please report it to us,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anti-Narcotics Force Rak Kumar said on Monday.

Addressing the reporters here, Kumar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “I would like to request the general public to educate their children about staying away from drugs and also to help keep their surroundings drug-free.”

“Please inform us about any drugs or drug peddlers in your area so that we can take appropriate action,” he said, adding, “Let us know about individuals involved in drug abuse, so we can admit them to drug de-addiction centers and assist them in leading a normal life.”

The SSP added, “We are actively working on the data we continuously receive and taking action accordingly. We are vigilant in our efforts to combat drug trafficking and catch drug smugglers. Each case has its unique circumstances, and we are handling them accordingly.”

Talking to KNO, the DSP Anti-Narcotics Task Force Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad Bakhshi, said, “We have two branches of the Anti-Narcotics Force, one in Jammu and the other in Srinagar. What sets us apart from other police forces is that we recover narcotics on a commercial level, but our commercial recoveries are measured in Kointels rather than kilograms.”

Regarding the seizure of properties by the J&K Anti-Narcotics Department, he said, “In Kashmir, we have seized properties worth approximately Rs 46 lakh.”—(KNO)
