
Srinagar July 21: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Besides, police destroyed wild bung in Main town Pampore area of Awantipora.
A police party led by SHO Police Station Boniyar under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shir Shokat Ali-JKPS during naka checking at Chandanwari Boniyar intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, officers were able to recover 28 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. He has been identified as Aman-Ullah Khan son of Gh Rasool Khan resident of Chandanwari Boniyar. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Boniyar and investigation has been initiated.
Moreover in Awantipora, officers from Police Station Pampore along with officials of Revenue Department, Horticulture, R&B and MC Pampore launched a bund destruction drive in Main Town Pampore and its adjacent areas and destroyed wild bung spread over 15 kanals of land. General public of the area have appreciated the action and have urged the authorities to continue this drive in nearby areas also.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
