Police Seize Illicit Deodar Timber in Handwara

Handwara, Oct 20 (KS) : The Handwara Police in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday claimed to have recovered illicit forest timber, specifically Deodar logs, in the town.

An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that prompt action was taken upon receiving credible information about the smuggling and cutting of valuable trees in forest compartment No. 25 of Khudi Mawar.

He said a team led by SHO Qalamabad and under the supervision of SDPO Handwara, a diligent team of officers swiftly rushed to the location, how’ver the smugglers as soon as saw police party fled from the spot.

The officer said that all the smugglers involved in crime have been identified as Salamdin Khatana, Nazir ah Khatana, and Mohd Ramzan Wani, all residents of Khudi Mawar.

The officer further said that In response to this incident, FIR No. 68/2023 has been filed under section 379 IPC & 26 IF Act, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway.

The Handwara Police are determined to bring all individuals involved in this illegal activity to justice.

Meanwhile, a police officer in a message to people said that Handwara Police earnestly appeals to the public to collaborate and cooperate with law enforcement in the fight against criminal activities.
