Srinagar: The 890-bedded SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, the largest tertiary care facility in Jammu & Kashmir, provides extensive healthcare services to approximately 3,200 outpatients and casualty cases daily. The hospital offers a wide range of outpatient services, including consultations in medicine, surgery, dermatology, ENT, radiation oncology, and ophthalmology. The casualty and emergency sections handle cases across general medicine, trauma, surgery, and other urgent medical needs.
In an average day, the hospital performs around 30 major surgeries and 60 minor procedures. During the 2023-24 period, the outpatient department treated 1,063,028 patients, while 107,589 patients were admitted to various inpatient wards. A total of 10,726 major surgeries and 12,543 minor surgeries were performed during this time.
The Radiation Oncology department provides care to approximately 110 patients daily, with 16 inpatient cases and 120 patients undergoing radiation therapy.
SMHS Hospital also conducts 6,000 lab tests daily in its dedicated laboratories, which operate 24/7. On the outpatient side, about 500 samples are evaluated daily, contributing to the 6,000 tests performed overall, including those for inpatients. Additionally, the hospital handles 30 MRIs, 450 ultrasounds, 125 CT scans, and approximately 400 X-rays each day.
