Cloudburst hits parts of Ramban district; Damage reported, ‘Search for missing family underway as rescue operation launched’

Srinagar, Aug 26 : The District Administration of Ramban has reported a cloudburst impacting the Panchayats of Kumate, Dhraman, and Halla, stating that rescue teams are on-site and all available resources are being mobilized.

Authorities have also urged the public to rely solely on official updates and prioritize their safety.

As per the reports received by the news agency KINS, the cloudburst has caused damage and triggered an urgent search for a missing mother and her two children. “These areas have been inundated and disrupted. Rescue teams are actively searching for the missing family under challenging conditions. Local authorities and joint rescue teams are working together to provide all possible assistance,” an official reported.

According to media reports, the cloudburst swept away the Government Middle School Gadgram in the Kumait area of Rajgarh, as well as a water mill in the vicinity.

“The flash flood triggered by the cloudburst also destroyed four vehicles in the Rajgarh area of Ramban district,” the reports said.

In response to the crisis, Union Minister Dr. Jatinder Singh has taken prompt action. “I have spoken with DC Ramban, Mr. Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary, to ensure that all necessary help is being provided to those affected,” Dr. Singh said.

“The administration has been instructed to maintain constant communication with the village and take all required measures to assist the affected individuals,” he said.

Dr. Jatinder Singh also shared an update on social media: “Disturbing report of a massive cloudburst in the Rajgarh area of district Ramban. I have spoken to DC Ramban, Mr. Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary. Search efforts are ongoing for a missing mother and her two children. Joint rescue operations are in progress, and all possible help is being provided.”

Local authorities have mobilized resources and alerted relevant departments to coordinate efforts and provide effective support to the community.

Residents are advised to remain alert and follow safety instructions as search and rescue operations continue. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, with a primary focus on locating the missing family and delivering immediate relief to those impacted by the cloudburst.
