Over 1,000 Cameras Installed Across Srinagar to Curb Traffic Violations: CEO Smart City
Srinagar, Dec 19, : Owais Ahmad, the CEO of Srinagar Smart City, announced on Thursday that over 1,000 cameras have been installed across the city as part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to address traffic violations.
In an interaction with reporters, Ahmad explained that the cameras are designed to capture a variety of traffic offenses, including non-compliance with seatbelt and helmet regulations, mobile phone usage while driving, and running red lights. He added that the system will soon be able to track speed violations as well.
On the first day of operations, approximately 102 challans were issued. The system automatically generates challans when a vehicle’s number plate is captured, and the driver must follow the payment procedure.
Owais Ahmad further revealed that the ITMS is fully operational at 33 out of the 66 junctions in the city. Due to some technical issues, the remaining signals are not yet functional, but efforts are underway to resolve these issues, with full functionality expected soon.
The ITMS utilizes advanced technology, including high-resolution cameras and radar sensors, to monitor intersections and highways. By collecting real-time data and analyzing it through computer algorithms, the system provides instant insights into traffic violations and patterns.
