Srinagar, Jan 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded the National Conference (NC) sack its Member of Parliament Aga Rahullah for allegedly terming increasing tourism in Jammu and Kashmir as a “cultural invasion.”
Addressing a press conference, BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi criticized the statement reportedly made by Aga Rahullah, claiming it undermines efforts to promote tourism in the region.
“We want to ask Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah if they support this statement. The NC has leaders who make such controversial remarks. Earlier, NC leader Mohammad Akbar Lone had also raised pro-Pakistan slogans,” Sethi alleged, according to the news agency KINS.
He further demanded that the NC clarify its stance on the matter. “If Omar Abdullah supports this statement, then he has no moral right to run the government. If not, the NC should immediately expel Aga Rahullah from the party,” Sethi demanded.
Highlighting the importance of tourism, Sethi said, “Boosting tourism is vital for increasing income and creating job opportunities for Kashmiris. Such statements discourage tourists and amount to political terrorism—a direct attack on Kashmir’s tourism sector.”
He urged political leaders to avoid making remarks that could harm the region’s economic interests. (KINS)
