Police Seize JCB, Register FIR Over Illegal Mineral Extraction in Kulgam

Kulgam, Feb 3, : Acting on a complaint about illegal mineral extraction near the Ashmuji Kelam bridge, police in Kulgam conducted a late-night raid, seizing a JCB machine and registering an FIR against the accused.

According to officials, a JCB machine (JK03N-3887) operated by Muzamil Ahmad Rather, son of Mohd Subhan Rather, a resident of Ashmuji, was seized while extracting minerals illegally from the Veshow River during night hours.

Meanwhile, a tractor (JK18D-0618), driven by Aabid Hassan Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan, also of Ashmuji, managed to flee from the spot under the cover of darkness.

Following the operation, police registered an FIR (No. 10/2025) at Police Station Kulgam. One accused has been apprehended, while efforts are underway to track down the other suspect who escaped.

The raid was conducted after complaints surfaced that illegal mineral extraction was causing damage to the Ashmuji Kelam bridge. Police have assured strict action against those involved in such unlawful activities, which pose a threat to public infrastructure and the environment.
