Quran Burner Salwan Momika’s Body Cremated in Sweden After Remaining Unclaimed

Stockholm, Sweden – Salwan Momika, the Iraqi refugee known for his controversial Quran-burning demonstrations, was cremated in Sweden after no one came forward to claim his body, reports indicate.

Momika was shot dead on January 29, 2025, during a livestream in his Södertälje apartment. His killing, which authorities are investigating for possible links to foreign involvement, sparked global reactions. However, despite his notoriety, no relatives or associates stepped forward to claim his remains.

Swedish authorities, following standard procedures for unclaimed bodies, arranged his cremation. The incident highlights the extent of Momika’s isolation after his provocative actions, which fueled international debates on free speech, religious sensitivities, and asylum policies.
