Ashok Koul Questions Govt’s Commitment After Free Power Promise Goes Unfulfilled

Srinagar, Mar 8, Jammu & Kashmir BJP’s State General Secretary (Org.), Ashok Koul, has strongly criticized the recently announced state budget, calling it a letdown that fails to meet public expectations.
Speaking at a press conference, Koul pointed out that several key promises made in the political manifesto were absent, particularly the pledge to provide 12 free LPG cylinders to families. He expressed disappointment over the omission, calling it a betrayal of public trust.
He also condemned the rise in fuel prices, stating that the hike in petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel would further burden common citizens instead of offering them relief.
Another major concern Koul raised was the nature of the budget’s welfare schemes. He claimed that many initiatives were merely extensions of Central Government programs rather than new policies formulated by the state. With funding primarily coming from the Centre, he argued that the budget lacked originality and failed to offer solutions tailored to Jammu and Kashmir’s needs.
Doubting the budget’s impact, Koul asserted that it would fall short of public expectations. He urged the government to focus on attracting industrial investments to boost employment and reduce the fiscal deficit.
Regarding the new electricity scheme, Koul acknowledged the initiative but criticized the government for not keeping its earlier promise of providing 200 free units of electricity to all households. Instead, he said, the benefit was restricted to a select few, leaving many disappointed.
He concluded by warning that without meaningful reforms, the budget would fail to bring real economic progress to Jammu and Kashmir.
