Passengers Suffer Due to Overcrowding on Baramulla-Sangaldan Train Route

April 5, 2025 Srinagar:-Passengers commuting on the Baramulla to Sangaldan train route are facing severe hardships due to persistent overcrowding, turning daily travel into an ordeal, especially for students, elderly, and office-goers.
The Baramulla-Sangaldan route, part of the recently expanded Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, has significantly improved regional connectivity. However, the limited number of trains and high passenger demand have led to packed coaches, forcing many to stand for hours or even hang dangerously from doors.
Commuters say the situation worsens during peak morning and evening hours. “Every day feels like a struggle. We are packed like sardines. It’s not just uncomfortable—it’s unsafe,” said Danish Mirza , a student from Anantnag.
The Baramula-Sangaldan DEMU, which departs at 7:40 AM, and the afternoon MEMU services are often filled beyond capacity shortly after departure. Women and elderly passengers find it especially difficult to board or find space.
The public, however, is urging quicker action. Commuters are demanding additional trains during rush hours and the deployment of more coaches to ease the burden.
As the route continues to gain importance, addressing the overcrowding issue remains critical to ensuring safe and dignified travel for thousands who rely on the service daily.
