Mother’s Suicide Attempt Foiled in Ganderbal as Locals Rescue Her and Two Children

Ganderbal, Apr 10, : A woman, carrying her young son and daughter, attempted to end their lives by jumping into a power canal near Wurpash village in Ganderbal district.

Eyewitnesses said the woman, appearing distressed, climbed the edge of the canal with her children before plunging into the water. The swift response of local residents turned what could have been a tragedy into a rescue mission, as they bravely pulled all three from the current.

The woman identified a Tasleema Akhtar and her children were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Medical staff confirmed to CNS that their condition is stable and they are under constant observation.

Police sources said that while all three are safe, the reasons behind the attempted suicide remain unclear.

“We are trying to understand what led her to take such a drastic step. The family is being counselled and the woman’s statement will be recorded once she’s in a better condition,” said an officer familiar with the case.
