Snatching Case Cracked by Nowabad Police; Two Arrested, Gold Worth Rs 6 Lakh Recovered

Jammu, April 17, In a swift breakthrough, the Nowabad Police solved a purse snatching case within days of its occurrence, arresting two suspects and recovering stolen property, including gold and silver items valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh.

The case came to light when Ishan Sodi, a resident of Tali Morh, New Plot, Jammu, reported to the Nowabad Police Station that his wife had been robbed in the Jewel area while on her way to attend a function at her parental home in Bari Brahmana. According to the complaint, she had alighted from a bus and was waiting for another at the roadside when two unidentified individuals snatched her purse and fled the scene.

Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation and constituted multiple teams to track down the culprits using both technical surveillance and human intelligence. Following a lead, a raid was conducted at a suspected location where two individuals were apprehended for questioning. They were later identified as Farhan Ahmed Naik, 19, son of Tariq Ahmed from Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, and Samiullah Butt alias Abbu, 18, son of Mohammad Sabdar Butt from Butt Pora Gosti, Tehsil Seva, District Doda, currently residing at Khatikan Talab, Jammu.

Under sustained interrogation, both confessed to their involvement in the crime. Based on their disclosure, the police recovered all stolen items, which included a gold set, two ladies’ chains, one gents’ gold chain, multiple rings, a pair of ear tops, a silver bracelet, a mobile phone, and the snatched purse. A black Pulsar 150cc motorcycle bearing registration number JK02CD/2691, used in the commission of the crime, was also seized.

A case under FIR No. 46/2025, registered under Section 307/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), has been lodged at Police Station Nowabad.

The arrest and recoveries were made by a team led by Inspector Deepak Pathania (SHO Nowabad), assisted by PSI Irshad Ahmed, HC Jaipal Singh, HC Faqar Din, and SgCt Anil Kumar. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DySP Farha Nishat, Headquarters Jammu, and SP City North Jammu, Vivek Shekhar.
