JKRDS Observes May Day and Holds Peace Vigil to Condemn Pahalgam Killings, Promote Communal Harmony

Srinagar, May 1, 2025:
In a solemn demonstration of solidarity and compassion, the Jammu & Kashmir Rural Development Society (JKRDS), a non-political and voluntary social organization, held a Peace Vigil March in Srinagar today to condemn the tragic killings in Pahalgam and express deep concern over the increasing incidents of targeted violence and harassment of innocent Kashmiris in various parts of the country.
The day began with a condolence meeting at the JKRDS headquarters, where Chairman JKRDS, former Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, and MLA Eidgah, Haji Mubarak Gul, along with senior members of the society, observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims. Prayers were offered for peace and strength to the affected families. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Gul encouraged all JKRDS volunteers to continue their service to society with dedication and to contribute actively toward maintaining communal harmony and mutual respect.
He also urged members of the organization to offer support and assistance to tourists and non-local visitors in Jammu & Kashmir, upholding the region’s long-standing tradition of hospitality, warmth, and brotherhood. “Our response must be rooted in compassion and service. Let us ensure that every visitor feels safe, welcome, and cared for,” he said.
Following the meeting, a peaceful march was held with participation from JKRDS members, youth volunteers, and concerned citizens. The vigil served as a public expression of the collective resolve to stand against hatred, violence, and any attempts to divide society along communal lines.
In his address during the vigil, Mubarak Gul strongly condemned the Pahalgam killings and the mistreatment of Kashmiris. “Such incidents are not only crimes against individuals but also direct attacks on human values and social harmony. They serve no purpose other than to sow division, and we must remain vigilant and united in resisting such forces,” he said.
JKRDS appealed to all sections of society to rise above differences and work together to preserve peace, understanding, and the spirit of coexistence. The organization also called upon the concerned authorities to ensure swift justice for the victims of the Pahalgam tragedy and to safeguard the rights, dignity, and safety of every citizen, regardless of region or background.
The event concluded with collective prayers for peace, unity, and the well-being of all people. JKRDS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human welfare, communal amity, and voluntary service across all communities.
“We believe in the power of kindness, unity, and service. No matter the challenges, we will continue working to build bridges of trust and compassion,” said Chairman Mubarak Gul at the close of the vigil.
