LG Manoj Sinha Acts on Public Complaints, Withdraws Security Cover of Controversial Bandipora Sarpanch
PSOs of Extronist Sarpanch Rather Mehraj Withdrawn, Wave of Appreciation in Sumbal and Bandipora

Bandipora, May 3-:- In a bold and decisive move underscoring the commitment to transparency and accountability, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the immediate withdrawal of Personal Security Officers (PSOs) assigned to Mehraj Rather, a Sarpanch from Bandipora accused of multiple misconducts.
The decision follows a string of persistent public complaints against Rather, who has been labeled by locals as an “extronist” figure due to his alleged misuse of power and influence. Reports suggest Rather was involved in repeated interference in administrative affairs, undue pressure on government officials, and manipulation of unemployed youth through false job promises in exchange for money.
Sources confirm that nearly a dozen complaints have been lodged against him at the Sumbal Police Station, including serious charges of monetary fraud during a recent government recruitment process. Moreover, a cheque bounce case involving Rather is reportedly pending in court.
The move to revoke his security cover was welcomed with widespread approval across Sumbal and surrounding areas. Panchayati Raj representatives, civil society members, and residents alike hailed the LG’s action as a much-needed intervention to restore faith in governance.
“This is the new Kashmir,” a local resident remarked. “There is no place in the system for those who misuse power. Accountability is no longer selective—it applies to everyone.”
Public representatives echoed this sentiment, stating that LG Manoj Sinha’s firm stance sends a strong message that no individual is above the law, regardless of their political or social standing.
This development reinforces the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and misuse of public office, signaling a shift toward a more transparent and people-centric governance model in Jammu and Kashmir.
