Govt Monitoring Heatwave Situation in Kashmir, Says Education Minister Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, June 11, Amid soaring temperatures across the Kashmir Valley, Education Minister Sakina Itoo Wednesday said that the government is closely monitoring the heatwave conditions before making any decision regarding the announcement of summer vacations in schools.
Speaking to reporters, the minister acknowledged the growing public concern over intense heat and its impact on school-going children. โThere has been a significant rise in temperature over the past few days. I have asked the Director of School Education to keep a close watch on the situation and provide timely updates,โ she said.
While no final decision has been made, the minister assured that the government is aware of the discomfort caused by the current weather conditions and will act in the best interest of students. โSummer vacations will be announced at an appropriate time based on the situation. The health and safety of children is our top priority,โ she added.
Notably, the Kashmir Valley has been reeling under an unusual summer heatwave, with daytime temperatures climbing well above the seasonal average. This has sparked calls from parents and school authorities alike for the early declaration of holidays.
Sources in the Education Department confirmed that a formal assessment is underway, and a decision may be taken soon if the heatwave persists. Meanwhile, schools continue to function as usual, though many have already adjusted schedules to reduce classroom hours.
