Kashmir Freezes Under Harsh Night Chill; Srinagar Shivers at -4.1°C, Shopian Coldest at -6.4°C

Srinagar, Dec 6 : The Kashmir Valley remained gripped by severe cold on Friday night as temperatures plunged further, with Shopian recording the lowest minimum temperature at a bone-chilling minus 6.4°C, official data revealed.

According to temperature details accessed by Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Pulwama and Pampore jointly registered the second-lowest minimum at minus 5.2°C, closely followed by Baramulla at minus 5.1°C and Anantnag at minus 4.9°C.

Srinagar Airport witnessed a minimum of minus 4.8°C, while Pahalgam dipped to minus 4.4°C, Qazigund to minus 4.2°C, and Srinagar city settled at minus 4.1°C. Budgam too recorded a low of minus 4.1°C.

Elsewhere in the Valley, Awantipora logged a minimum of minus 3.8°C, Kupwara minus 3.5°C, and Bandipora minus 3.4°C. Ganderbal recorded minus 3.1°C, followed by Sonamarg at minus 3.0°C and Gulmarg at minus 2.6°C.

Kulgam saw slightly milder conditions at minus 1.2°C, while Kokernag emerged as the warmest spot in the region with a minimum of minus 0.2°C.

With temperatures staying well below freezing across most districts, the cold wave is expected to persist in the coming days, meteorological officials said.
