Srinagar Admin organises programme on National Girl Child Day-2026 under BBBP at Women’s College M.A Road DC highlights role of Women in societal development; Calls for ending Gender Stereotypes

SRINAGAR JANUARY 24: In connection with celebrations of National Girl Child Day-2026, a programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) was held here at Government Women’s College M.A Road aimed to sensitise participants about the significance of the birth of the girl child and to create awareness regarding various government schemes and initiatives focused on women empowerment and emancipation.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo was the Chief Guest of the Programme organized jointly by the District Administration Srinagar and District Social Welfare Office.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the DC highlighted the pivotal role of women in the overall development of society. He underlined the role of women in nurturing and shaping the lives of all in the society. He observed that women are the driving force behind the success and progress of society as a whole. He cited examples of various women achievers and officers who have led society and inspired positive change.
The DC urged parents to focus on identifying and nurturing the talents of their children so that they can achieve their best.
He emphasised the need to collectively work towards ending gender stereotypes and ensuring equal opportunities for girls in education, employment, and leadership. He stressed on building a positive environment that values the girl child and prevents gender-bias.
The DC also highlighted the initiatives of the Government launched for empowerment and overall development of girl child to educate and empower them, besides providing avenues to foster their economic, social and political growth and securing their financial future.
During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner also felicitated JKBOSE girl toppers and young achievers for their exceptional contributions in academics and various other fields, lauding their determination and inspiring achievements.
District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, earlier welcomed the participants and addressed the gathering with opening remarks about the programme.
The programme was attended by District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Chief Education Officer, Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din, Principal GGHSS Kothibagh, District Health Officer, other Officers of District Social Welfare Office, Staff and Students of the College, Anagnwari/Asha workers and other participants.
