The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag, today visited the National Highway to take stock of the snow clearance work being carried out in view of the ongoing snowfall and to ensure that traffic movement remains smooth and safe.
During the visit, the SDM inspected vulnerable stretches of the highway and reviewed the functioning of snow clearance machinery on the ground. It was noted that traffic disruption at some locations was mainly due to vehicles moving without anti-skid chains on slippery road conditions. The SDM intervened on the spot to regulate traffic and instructed drivers to strictly use anti-skid chains while travelling on snow-bound roads.
The SDM also visited the Power Grid Station at Lisser to review the status of electricity supply in the area. Officials of the concerned department were directed to remain alert and ensure adequate power supply, particularly to essential services, during the adverse weather.
The SDM interacted with local residents and shopkeepers during the visit, listened to their concerns, and assured them that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to minimise inconvenience to the public.
All concerned departments have been directed to maintain close coordination and remain prepared to respond to any exigency arising due to snowfall. The general public is advised to follow safety advisories and cooperate with the administration.
