*Drug Peddler Held with Contraband Substance in Anantnag’s Bijbehara: Police*

Anantnag, Feb 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday achieved a major success against drug trafficking by arresting a suspected drug peddler and recovering a contraband substance in the Gadiseer area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
An official said the arrest was made during a police raid at the accused’s residential house in Gadiseer, Bijbehara.
The operation was carried out on the directions of SSP Anantnag Shri Amritpal Singh and was led by SHO Bijbehara Majid Khan along with his team.
“During checking, a person identified as Zahid Ahmad, a resident of Gadiseer, Bijbehara, was apprehended. On search, ganja-like powder weighing approximately 4.172 kilograms was recovered. The substance was concealed beneath the verandah of his residential house,” the official said.
He added that a case vide FIR No. 30/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse from society and urged the general public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug trafficking with the police.
