Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France next week, marking their first face-to-face bilateral engagement since PM Modi’s visit to the United States last year.
The expected meeting comes at a significant moment for India-US relations, which have seen both cooperation and friction over trade, tariffs and geopolitical issues. Despite recent disagreements, including US tariff measures and differing positions on global conflicts, both leaders have remained in contact through multiple phone conversations.
During his June 13-18 visit to France and Slovakia, PM Modi is also expected to hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, while participating in discussions with G7 leaders, partner countries and international organisations.
The anticipated Modi-Trump meeting is likely to focus on trade, defence, strategic technologies, energy security and broader regional and global developments, as India and the United States move closer to finalising a bilateral trade agreement.
