Two Drug Peddlers Held with 13.8 Grams of Heroin in Qazigund; Kulgam Police Intensify Anti-Narcotics Drive

Kulgam, July 11: Continuing its crackdown under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan”, Kulgam Police on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers and recovered 13.8 grams of heroin-like contraband, along with a digital weighing machine and silver foil, during a naka checking at Qazigund.
According to an official statement, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Qazigund established a checkpoint at Wanpora near the bridge. During the checking, a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number JK01BA-6269 was intercepted with two occupants on board.
During the search of the vehicle, the police recovered 13.8 grams of heroin-like contraband substance, one digital weighing machine and a silver foil. The recovered items were seized as evidence, and the vehicle used in the commission of the offence was also taken into custody.
The accused have been identified as Towseef Ahmad Khan, son of Tariq Ahmad Khan, and Zaheen Fayaz Bhat, son of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Batmaloo, Srinagar. Both were arrested on the spot.
In this connection, FIR No. 178/2026 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and further investigation has been initiated.
Kulgam Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying its campaign against drug trafficking and urged the general public to share any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities. The police appealed for active public cooperation to eliminate the drug menace, emphasizing that narcotics continue to endanger the lives and future of the younger generation.
