Ganderbal, July 12, : An unidentified body was recovered from the Sindh Nallah in the Shatkadi area of Sonamarg on Sunday, prompting police to launch an investigation to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body was noticed by local residents floating in the stream, following which the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the police.
A police team from Sonamarg, accompanied by the Zonal Officer for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra duty, Mir Afaq Ahmad, rushed to the spot with the assistance of local residents and retrieved the body from the nallah.
The body was later shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Sonamarg, where legal and medico-legal formalities were initiated.
Police have registered a case and commenced investigation. Efforts are also underway to establish the identity of the deceased.
