*Anantnag Police Tightens Noose on Drug Traffickers; Drug Peddler Held with Charas*

In its relentless campaign to eradicate the menace of narcotics from the district, Anantnag Police achieved another significant success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering a charas powder from his possession.

During routine patrolling in the Halmulla–Sethar area near the bank of River Jhelum, a police team from Police Post Sangam intercepted and apprehended Irfan Ahmad Dass, son of Mohammad Amin Dass, a resident of Waghama. A thorough personal search led to the recovery of a green-coloured polythene bag containing a charas powder-like substance concealed in his possession.

The accused was immediately taken into custody and the recovered contraband was seized in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures.

Accordingly, FIR No. 217/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and investigation has been initiated to trace the source, supply chain and possible forward linkages of the recovered narcotic substance.

Anantnag Police reiterates its unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and taking stringent action against all those involved in the narcotics trade. The public is once again urged to come forward with credible information regarding drug peddling, with the assurance that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
