Srinagar, July 23 : A man jumped into the River Jhelum at Sempora in the Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar on Thursday, prompting a rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), officials said.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the incident occurred at Sempora, following which the SDRF was informed.
They said rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to trace the man.
The man was later identified as Maqsood Ahmad Mir, son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Balhama, Pantha Chowk. The rescue operation was underway when the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation.—(KNO)
