*BJP J&K Welcomes Amit Shah’s ‘All-Out War’ on Drug Mafia*

Srinagar/Jammu, Sep 7: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokespersons G.L. Raina and Altaf Thakur have welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s declaration of an “all-out war” against the drug mafia, describing the Centre’s three-year roadmap to achieve a Drug-Free India by 2029 as a decisive step towards dismantling the narcotics-terror ecosystem.
Raina and Thakur said the fight against drugs can no longer be viewed merely as a law-and-order issue, as proceeds from narcotics trafficking are increasingly linked to networks involved in narco-terrorism and attempts to destabilise the country.
Speaking at a national security and narcotics conference, Shah unveiled an aggressive 2026–2029 roadmap for Nasha Mukt Bharat, identifying the fight against drug cartels as one of the country’s most critical internal-security challenges following the suppression of Naxalism.
The BJP leaders said the Centre’s approach marks a shift from isolated seizures and arrests towards dismantling the entire narcotics ecosystem—from street-level peddlers to international kingpins, financiers and clandestine laboratories.
‘Detect, Disrupt, Destroy’ strategy
Raina and Thakur welcomed the government’s three-pronged strategy of Detect, Disrupt and Destroy, focusing on supply reduction, financial disruption and demand reduction.
They said enforcement agencies have been directed to pursue a strict zero-tolerance policy and investigate networks both from the bottom upwards and from the top downwards to identify masterminds, financiers and cross-border kingpins.
They also welcomed the focus on tracking illicit money trails, freezing drug-funded assets and destroying clandestine synthetic-drug laboratories, while tackling emerging threats involving cryptocurrency, the dark web and drone-based smuggling.
At the same time, Shah has emphasised that addicted youth should be treated as victims requiring empathy and rehabilitation, with greater focus on de-addiction infrastructure, counselling and awareness.
42.47 lakh kg narcotics seized
The BJP leaders highlighted that between 2014 and 2026, enforcement agencies seized and destroyed more than 42.47 lakh kilograms of illegal narcotics, valued at approximately ₹89,896 crore.
Under the three-year mission, the government has set targets to dismantle 100 international and inter-state drug networks, extradite 100 high-profile narcotics fugitives and destroy 100 clandestine laboratories.
They said institutional mechanisms such as the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD), MANAS helpline and NIDAN database would strengthen intelligence sharing and help identify trafficking hotspots and convicted narcotics offenders.
‘Shrinking terror figures, dying separatist ideology a major achievement’
Raina and Thakur also welcomed Shah’s remarks that terrorism-related figures in Jammu and Kashmir are shrinking towards zero, describing it as a major achievement in the fight against terrorism and a reflection of the changing security landscape in the Union Territory.
They said Shah’s assertion that separatist ideology is dying is equally significant, arguing that the people of J&K are increasingly choosing peace, development, democracy and economic opportunity over violence and separatism.
The BJP leaders said the drug crackdown assumes special significance for J&K, where narcotics trafficking can intersect with cross-border terror networks. Choking the flow of drug money, they said, would consequently help choke the financial pipelines that sustain narco-terrorism.
Raina and Thakur said the drug mafia must be treated as an organised national-security threat rather than merely a criminal enterprise.
They called for continued coordination between the Centre, J&K administration, security agencies, enforcement agencies and civil society to make Jammu and Kashmir drug-free, terror-free and firmly anchored in peace and development.
