Addressing a meeting of BJP workers in Surankot of Poonch district, Chugh said that in the eyes of these three families and their dynastic parties, J&K has been of looting the resources which were meant for the development and progress of the people.

While highlighting the achievements of the Modi government in the last 10 years, Cgugh said that on one hand there is development and trust under the leadership of PM Modi , while on the other hand Congress and National Conference represent corruption and ‘mafia raj’. Even today, these three nepotism parties are crushing the aspirations of the people to see a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
In the last ten years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , the definition, method and culture of politics in the country has changed. During the rule of the opposition, there was appeasement, casteism, regionalism, nepotism as well as divisive politics in the name of religion. From 2004 to 2014, there was an atmosphere of disappointment and frustration in the country. From 2014, the situation of the country changed and under the leadership of PM Modi , a self-reliant and prosperous India has been created.

Chugh said that under the leadership of the Modi government, India’s economy reached the 5th position from 11th position in the world. The world’s cheapest and most effective medicines are being made in India. Under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 5 kg of food grains are being provided free of cost to 80 crore people. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 25 crore people of India have come out of the poverty line and extreme poverty has reduced to less than one percent. Today, a healthy India has been created by providing annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh to 55 crore people. Srinagar, May 16: PDP candidate from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency Waheed Para has been booked for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by holding a road show without prior permission in south Kashmir’s Pulwama last month, officials said on Thursday.

The Srinagar constituency went to polls on May 13, registering about 38 per cent voter turnout which was the second highest in the past three decades. Para is among 24 candidates in the fray from the seat.

The officials said the FIR was lodged against Para on May 8 under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code at Pulwama police station on the complaint lodged by nodal officer, MCC and additional deputy commissioner, Pulwama.

The PDP leader is accused of holding a road show in the areas of Beighpora, Padgampora, Larkipora, Wankanpora, Goripora, Dangerpora, Jangalnad, Batapora, Dhawatoo, Khandaypora and Panzgam in Pulwama on April 27, without any permission from the authorities concerned.

Quoting a report of senior superintendent of police, the complainant said the vehicle-bound rally of Para from PDP office to circular road via Rajpora Chowk, Murran and Peaks crossing was in violation of the MCC.

The candidate violated the MCC despite requests from Pulwama police station SHO (station house officer) and duty magistrate, thereby jeopardizing his security and the security of other persons, the complainant said, adding the delayed response of the PDP district president over the violation was not satisfactory.

Para was also served a notice by the J&K election department earlier this month, objecting to his statement asking youngsters to consider the general elections as a “referendum”.

However, the PDP leader defended his remark, in his response on May 10, and said his statement that the “ensuing election is no less than a referendum” only points towards the importance of the polls.(Agencies)

NEW DELHI, May 16: The Supreme Court Thursday held that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) cannot arrest an accused under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after a special court has taken cognisance of the complaint of money laundering.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan said when an accused appears before a court in pursuance of a summons, the agency will have to apply to the court concerned to get his custody.

“If the accused appears before the special court by summons (issued by court), it cannot be treated that he is in custody,” it said.
“Accused who appeared before the court pursuant to the summons not required to apply for bail, and thus twin conditions of Section 45 of PMLA not applicable,” the bench said in its judgment.
The twin conditions state that when an accused in a money laundering case applies for bail, the court has to first allow the public prosecutor to be heard and only when it is satisfied that the accused is not guilty and unlikely to commit a similar offence when released, can bail be granted.
The apex court judgment was pronounced on a question of whether an accused in a money laundering case has to meet the stringent twin test for bail even in cases where the special court takes cognisance of the offence. (Agencies)

JAMMU, May 16: To facilitate pilgrims seeking special darshan in a jiffy, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board will start its Jammu to Sanjhi Chhat helicopter service possibly from June.
Sources privy to the development said that the SMVDSB is starting Jammu to Sanjhi Chhat helicopter service for the pilgrims, who want to have darshan at Bhawan in a day’s time.

“If everything goes as per the proposed schedule, the helicopter service is expected to be available in the first fortnight of June,” sources said.
The pilgrims availing the facility will be dropped at Panchhi helipad, 2.5-km short of Bhawan, adding they said that special darshan will also be provided to these pilgrims.

The Shrine Board, as per sources, will be introducing two types of packages comprising ‘Same Day Return’ (SDR) for Rs 35,000/- and ‘Next Day Return’ (NDR) for Rs 50,000/- per person.
Sharing the details, sources said that in SDR format, pilgrims on reaching Panchhi Helipad will be provided battery car service to Bhawan, special darshan slip, ‘prasad’, priority ticket cable car to offer prayers at ‘Bhairon Temple’, battery car service on return to reach Panchi Helipad and board the helicopter for Jammu Airport.

Sources further said that in NDR, rooms at Bhawan and ‘Atka Aarti’ are in addition included to all SDR facilities.
Notably, helicopter service at present is available only between Katra and Sanjhi Chhat for which the one-way fare is Rs 2,100 per person.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has already permitted helicopter service between Jammu and Bhawan while the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is on job to make all arrangements and preparations before the start of the SDR/NDR services for hassle-free and smooth pilgrimage experience to the devotees. Nashik, May 16: In a veiled swipe at the country’s first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said India lost its hold on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) due to “someone’s weakness or mistake”.

Jaishankar made the remarks while addressing a programme event titled ‘Vishwabandhu Bharat’
To a question on what would China’s response be if India crossed the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ and integrated PoJK to the Union of India, given that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor passes through Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan, the External Affairs Minister said, “I don’t believe there’s any such thing as a ‘Lakshman Rekha’. I think PoJK is a part of India, and due to someone’s weakness or mistake, it’s temporarily slipped away from us.”
Reaffirming the parliamentary resolution to reclaim PoJK, the career diplomat and former ambassador to Beijing highlighted the historical context of China’s involvement in the region, stressing that neither Pakistan nor its neighbour can assert its sovereignty over PoJK, as India has a ‘legitimate claim’ over the territory.
“I was China’s ambassador, and we all are aware of China’s past actions and it working hand in glove with Pakistan… its old history. We repeatedly told them that this land, neither Pakistan nor China claims it as theirs. If there’s any sovereign claimant, it’s India. You’re occupying, you’re building there, but the legal title is mine,” Jaishankar added.
Invoking the 1963 agreement between Pakistan and China, Jaishankar noted that while Islamabad transferred a significant portion of the Pakistan-occupied territory to China as a gesture of friendship, the agreement stipulates that China will ultimately respect the territorial claims of either Pakistan or India.
“In 1963, Pakistan and China agreed to take their friendship forward, and to keep China close, Pakistan handed over about 5,000km of the Pakistan-occupied territory to China. It’s written in that agreement that eventually, China will respect whether this territory belongs to Pakistan or India. Sometimes people just grab territory, and then it’s about how to resolve it,” Jaishankar said.
Addressing the changing dynamics in the region, Jaishankar emphasised the need for India to assertively maintain its position via a vis PoJK, saying, “I think we need to keep our position very strong, we need to have confidence in ourselves. Ten years ago, none of you would talk like this, it’s a change… even the Indian public has confidence in this.”
Notably, the BJP leaders have been taking regular potshots at previous Congress governments under Pt Nehru and Indira Gandhi over the ceding of the island of Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka while also invoking PoJK. (Agencies)

Jammu, May 16: Beware Jammuities, peeing publicly will soon land you in trouble as the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is introducing imposition of fine for involving in such public nuisances.

An official said the JMC will be slapping a fine upto Rs 5000/- for urinating publicly, open defecation and spitting especially tobacco products (pan, gutkha, supari).
Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rahul Yadav has already issued an order directing the Health Wing and Field Staff to comply with it that says that urinating publicly will not be allowed anywhere.
“There are urinals and toilets at various places and can be used for peeing instead of involving in public nuisance,” said an official adding that those who will not be following the directives, will face heavy fines.
“If the fine is not paid on the spot, a challan will be issued which has to be deposited in the Court,” they said.
Notably, urinating in public places may also be punishable under the Section 290 IPC – punishment for public nuisance of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This section deals with acts that cause a common injury, danger or annoyance to the public or the people in general.
“We are carrying out an awareness drive in this regard by pasting posters, displaying banners across the city,” Dr Vinod Sharma, Health Officer, JMC said.
He said that instructions to take strict action have already been issued to the concerned officials, adding, “fine will also be imposed for urinating publicly, open defecation and spitting.”
Focus is being laid on awareness, he said adding, “the Jammu city is getting a facelift under ‘Jammu Smart City Projects Limited’, so it becomes our moral duty to keep our city clean.”
“Only punishment will not work until collective effort, participation in form of ‘Jan Bhagidari’ will not be an aim to achieve our goal,” he stated.
“JMC is a nodal agency to maintain cleanliness but public participation is the key to achieve the mission and Indore city is one of the greatest examples we are having in the country where people are much aware and contribute in getting the top ranking with regard to cleanliness to their city,” said the Health Officer.

Sitamarhi (Bihar), May 16: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) belongs to India and the country will take it back “at any cost”.

Addressing an election rally in Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, the former BJP president slammed the Congress-led opposition for “raising fear about Pakistan’s atomic power”.
“When Article 370 was scrapped, Rahul Gandhi had said that it would lead to bloodshed. Five years have elapsed and not a pebble has been hurled. But Congress’s ally Farooq Abdullah tries scaremongering by saying that we cannot take back PoJK as Pakistan has atom bombs,” Shah asserted.
“I wish to declare from the birthplace of Goddess Sita that Bharat and its 140 crore people fear no one. Pakistan occupied Kashmir is ours and it will remain so. We will take it back,” he said.
Shah said the Modi government will also ensure full security along the India-Nepal border in its third term.
Attacking the INDIA bloc, he said, “Lalu Prasad-led RJD has joined hands with the Congress that opposed the Mandal Commission’s recommendations but PM Modi has given respect to lakhs of people from the backward classes. Lalu joined hands with the Congress only to make his son, Tejashwi Yadav, the chief minister of Bihar… but the state needs ‘vikasraj, not ‘jungelraj’.”
“Congress ruled the country for 60 years but did not think about welfare of 60 crore OBCs. Congress and RJD never thought of conferring Bharat Ratna on former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur… it was done by the Modi government,” he said.
Shah said that the NDA government has decided to develop ‘Punaura Dham Mandir’, a temple in Sitamarhi district considered to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, as an international pilgrimage site.
“After Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, we will construct a massive temple of Sita Mata in Sitamarhi,” he said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet has approved Rs 72.47 crore for the development of the temple.
Senior JD (U) leader and Bihar Legislative Council chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur is the NDA nominee from Sitamarhi Lok Sabha seat.
Shah will address another election rally in Madhubani Lok Sabha seat later in the day.
Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Hajipur Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in the fifth phase on May 20.

Jammu, May 16: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti said on Thursday that in a way, the delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir was “right” as the Pir Panjal region will not be neglected now.

Her statement on the delimitation exercise is in contrast with the PDP’s stand. The party had rejected the Delimitation Commission, saying that it was an extension of the BJP.
Other regional political parties had also opposed the delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir.
“In a way, the delimitation that took place (in Jammu and Kashmir) was right. The Pir Panjal region will not be neglected now,” Iltija Mufti, who is campaigning for her mother and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, told PTI here.
The Delimitation Commission was tasked by the Centre with redrawing the boundaries of assembly and parliamentary constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
In its final report, the three-member panel headed by Justice (retd) Ranjana Desai, gave six additional assembly seats to the Jammu region and one to the Kashmir Valley. The Jammu division now has 43 assembly seats and Kashmir 47 in the 90-member House.
Iltija Mufti said the Pir Panjal region was very backward and emerged on the map of Jammu and Kashmir after the former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led government came to power.
“There were not even roads to connect distant and rural areas. After the formation of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s government, the Mughal Road was constructed. He focused on education and facilitated the setting up of Baba Ghulam Shah University here. It was during the period (tenure) of Mufti Sayeed that Pir Panjal came on the map of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
Iltija Mufti called on people to vote for her mother Mehbooba Mufti, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.
“I request everyone from here to connect with us and we want to take part in the development journey of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.
“The campaigning by Mehbooba ji is carrying forward a message of positivity, hope, and happiness because there is no section of society that has not been subjected to injustice and cruelty after 2019. Everyone is unhappy,” she added.
In an apparent reference to the BJP, Iltija Mufti said those trying to sow discord among the diverse communities of the region will face repercussions.
“We don’t want a division but unity of all sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir… to take everyone forward towards development. It is a good message. They (BJP) have done nothing. But they are engaged in the politics of hatred for vote bank,” she said.
“The PDP will focus on its agenda of peace, happiness, and move forward with that message with confidence,” she said.
Iltija Mufti has held roadshows in Poonch district to garner support for her mother.
Mehbooba Mufti is pitted against National Conference (NC) leader Mian Altaf and J&K Apni Party candidate Zafar Iqbal Manhas. Polling in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency will be held on May 25. (Agencies)

New Delhi, May 16: Senior IPS officers A Y V Krishna and N Venu Gopal have been appointed as additional directors in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Krishna, a 1995-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is currently working as Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He has been inducted as the additional director of CBI for a tenure up to August 6, 2028, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said.
Krishna’s batchmate Venu Gopal (Himachal Pradesh cadre) is presently working as joint director in the CBI.
He has been appointed as additional director, CBI for a tenure up to May 24, 2027, another order said. (Agencies)
