Anantnag Police Registers 153 NDPS Cases, Arrests 147 Accused; Above 372 Kgs of Contraband Seized, Properties Worth ₹3.70 Crore acted upon

Anantnag Police, in its continued drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, has carried out an intensified crackdown on drug mafia during the first four months of 2026, yielding significant results across the district.

During this period, 153 cases under the NDPS Act were registered, leading to the arrest of 147 accused persons involved in drug-related offences.

In multiple operations, police recovered substantial quantities of contraband including 170.995 kgs of cannabis powder, 185.001 kgs of ganja, 1.515 kgs of charas, 14.574 kgs of poppy straw, 160 grams of brown sugar, 38 grams of heroin, and 750 intoxicant tablets. The total estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately ₹48,20,613.

As part of its proactive measures, Anantnag Police also destroyed illegal narcotic crop cultivation spread over approximately 190 marlas of land, thereby curbing the supply at its source.

In addition, 21 vehicles were seized in connection with drug trafficking cases, while 10 Registration Certificates (RCs) and 09 Driving Licenses were cancelled as part of legal action.

Further intensifying its action against the financial networks of drug peddlers, properties worth approximately ₹3.70 crore were attached, including 05 residential houses and 03 vehicles.

Moreover, three illegally constructed restaurants worth crores belonging to drug peddlers were demolished on NHW-44 by Anantnag Police.
