Srinagar, Sep 01: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said it has arrested two police officers for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe in Srinagar.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the Investigating Officer (IO) of Case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant through his accomplice, Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
He said that upon receiving the complaint, the ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.
Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was taken up.
The spokesperson said that during the course of the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector, Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, red-handed while demanding and accepting the Rs 15,000 bribe on behalf of the case’s IO, PSI Karanjeet Singh, from the complainant.
He said the bribe amount was recovered from the accused’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses. Bhat was taken into custody in accordance with law, while his co-conspirator, PSI Karanjeet Singh, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau. Further investigation is in progress.—(KNO)
