Omar Abdullah claims New Delhi wants to silence me over contesting polls by Jailed people

Former chief minister J&K Omar Abdullah on Friday said that he couldn’t perceive New Delhi’s agenda in Lok Sabha when it fielded candidates from jail; rather I thought it was his luck and my weakness.

Omar without pointing out Er Rashid’s win in Lok Sabha elections said he couldn’t perceive New Delhi’s agenda then, and thought it was ‘his’ luck and my weakness which led him to lost the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla Parliamentary segment.

He said in the ongoing electoral process when Assembly elections are scheduled to be held from September 18, New Delhi again resorted to its mischief and fielded another candidate against me who is currently lodged in jail.

“I was not sure earlier, but with the passage of time I came to this conclusion that New Delhi is playing mischief to me. People lodged in jails are being fielded against me wherever from I am contesting. Earlier it was in Baramulla, then Ganderbal, and later on Budgam,” Omar said.

Without naming jailed Sarjan Barkati, he said .“I didn’t take it so serious earlier, but after Sarjan Barkati decided to contest polls from Ganderbal, and simultaneously then from Budgam I reached to this conclusion that New Delhi does not want me to represent my people, and want to silence me”.

He said a person of Shopian district has wished to contest polls from where I am going to contest, which has surprised me. “I discussed this design of New Delhi with my party workers. I reached silently to RO Office Budgam to file nomination. But it surprised us later on when the family of jailed person reached there and decided their family head to contest polls from there,” he said.

Omar said that I am representing my people, flagging up their concerns, talking of their snatched rights, and dignity. “If I am fighting with New Delhi it is a fight for your survival and dignity. I am not fighting it for myself or my family. I hope your people will venture out on polling day and give befitting reply to those who want to silent me,” Omar added. (KNS)
