The session marked the inaugural program of the media tour.
The delegation, led by Neha Jalali, Director, PIB Jammu, includes 14 journalists from Jammu and Srinagar. Jaidevi Pujari Swami, Deputy Director, PIB Mumbai, was also present during the interaction.
During the meeting at JNPA headquarters, Wagh highlighted the port’s strategic role in strengthening India’s maritime trade and enhancing logistics efficiency. He detailed ongoing modernization projects, developmental initiatives, and efforts to improve trade connectivity nationwide.
Emphasizing JNPA’s position as India’s leading container-handling port, he noted its substantial contribution to national economic growth through world-class infrastructure and innovative logistics solutions.
The session was particularly significant for Jammu and Kashmir, as the Union Territory’s economy relies heavily on the efficient movement of goods, including handicrafts, dry fruits, and horticultural produce, to domestic and international markets. Enhanced port infrastructure and trade facilitation are critical for boosting J&K’s exports and integrating local businesses into global supply chains.
In his address, JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh invited traders from Jammu and Kashmir to explore opportunities in the maritime sector, highlighting prospects for growth, collaboration, and participation in national trade networks.
Earlier, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing from senior JNPA officials led by Ambika Singh, Senior Manager Marketing & PRO, JNPA, and DGM (Corporate Communications & Training), Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. She provided insights into the operations of various JNPA terminals, the port’s digitalization and efficiency measures, and its clean energy initiatives. Ms. Singh also shared updates on upcoming projects, including the Vadhvan Port Project, whose foundation stone was laid last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with completion expected by 2030.
The five-day PIB J&K media tour in Mumbai aims to provide journalists with firsthand exposure to major national projects, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), and other strategically important institutions.
