**Anantnag Police intensifies crackdown on drug mafia; five drug peddlers arrested, five FIRs registered**

**Anantnag, 09 October 2026:**
Continuing its sustained crackdown on the drug menace, Anantnag Police has intensified naka checking and surveillance across the district, resulting in the arrest of five drug peddlers in separate NDPS cases and the recovery of heroin and charas from their possession.

In the first instance, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking at Fidar Road, apprehended a person identified as Adil Rahman S/o Abdul Rahman R/o Peti Khas, Verinag. During his personal search, approximately 07 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dooru, and investigation has been initiated.

In another case, a police party from Police Station Dooru, during naka checking at Qamar, apprehended another person identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat S/o Abdul Salaam Bhat R/o Kapran. During his search, approximately 08 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 155/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dooru, and investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, deployed on naka duty at NH-244 near Najigund, Anantnag, intercepted a person identified as Amir Hussain Sheikh S/o Mohd Ramzan Sheikh R/o Donipawa. During his search, 10.76 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated in the matter.

In another case, a police party from Police Station Anantnag, during naka checking at Mehendi Kadal, intercepted a person identified as Muneeb Saleem Wani S/o Mohammad Saleem Wani R/o Bangidar. During his search, 06 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. Necessary legal proceedings have been initiated in this case as well.

In yet another case, a police party from Police Post Sangam intercepted a person identified as Urood Gul S/o Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh R/o Bijbehara. During his search, 6.30 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 291/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation has been taken up.

Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to continuing the crackdown against drug trafficking and peddling. Sustained enforcement and preventive measures are being undertaken across the district to protect the youth and society from the menace of drugs.
