JAMMU, Oct 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to hold its legislative party meeting by or before Wednesday at its head office in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, where discussions will focus on appointing the Leader of the Opposition.
“The party high command will send central observers to J&K within a day or two to facilitate the legislative party meeting,” J&K BJP leader Ravinder Raina told Rising Kashmir.
“The discussions will primarily be about appointing the Leader of the Opposition,” he added.
The meeting will be attended by all 29 newly elected BJP MLAs. The party achieved its best-ever performance in the recently concluded J&K Assembly elections, securing a historic win in the Jammu region by bagging 29 out of 43 seats.
The BJP also emerged as the party with the highest vote share in these elections, securing 25.64%. The National Conference (NC), the single largest party, garnered 23.43%, while the Congress received 11.97% and the PDP obtained just 8.87% of votes.
During the last phase of the elections, 24 seats were contested in the plains of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur. The BJP dominated, winning 22 out of these 24 seats, marking a clean sweep in these regions.
