One dead, 26 rescued after fire breaks out at building in Delhi’s Shakarpur

New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) A 40-year-old woman died, and 10 persons injured after a fire broke out at a building in East Delhi’s Shakarpur on Tuesday, Delhi Fire Service said.

Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said that 26 persons were rescued while five others jumped from the balcony.

At least 31 persons were trapped in a building comprising ground plus three-storey, 26 people were rescued by DFS personnel and five others jumped from the balcony. Out of them, ten persons were rushed to GTB Hospital, LBS Hospital and Hedgewar Hospital where the women were declared dead by the doctors, DFS officials said.

“One DFS personnel identified as Samay Singh having breathing problems was also injured and rushed to LBS hospital and he is discharged after first aid,” said Garg.

According to DFS, initially three fire tenders were rushed to the site. But later on, five more tenders reached the spot when the department got the call that several people were trapped inside the building.
